US Military Leaders Warn Hegseth Against Extending Iran War Operations

Senior US military leaders have reportedly warned Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth that continuing large-scale military operations against Iran could put increasing pressure on US forces and reduce their ability to respond to threats elsewhere. The warning was reportedly included in a classified Pentagon assessment prepared for Hegseth.

According to reports, senior commanders expressed concerns about the continued deployment of American personnel, aircraft, ships and other military resources to the Middle East. Some US forces currently deployed in the region are expected to remain there through September, while certain deployments could continue into 2027.

The assessment reportedly highlighted growing pressure on military readiness, particularly as resources are diverted from other regions. Senior commanders overseeing US operations in Europe, the Indo-Pacific and Latin America raised concerns that prolonged commitments in the Middle East could affect their ability to respond to other potential security challenges.

The US Navy has reportedly faced especially heavy demands during the conflict, while concerns have also been raised over missile-interceptor stocks, aircraft availability and the readiness of military units.

Pentagon officials have said that decisions about the deployment and duration of US forces are based on current threats, presidential priorities and recommendations from senior military commanders.
